Manawatū Migrant Voices: A Portrait Series

I am thrilled to share a portraiture project that’s been a real passion of mine - Manawatū Migrant Voices: A Portrait Series.

With support from Palmerston North’s Community Development and Welcoming Communities teams, I’ve been photographing migrants and refugees across our region. Each person handwrites their own story or reflection directly onto a life-size A2 print of their portrait, turning every piece into a unique collaboration and a powerful glimpse into our city’s diversity.

I’m working towards an exhibition at Square Edge in Feb 2026 featuring 50 handwritten portraits of different cultures. I’m currently at 30+ portraits representing over 20 cultures - and I’d love to include many more.

If you’re a migrant living in the Manawatū, or know someone who might like to be involved, please get in touch. It’s a chance to be part of something meaningful for our community.
