Te Ahu a Turanga - Manawatū Tararua Highway | NOW OPEN!

We've just opened Te Ahu a Turanga - Manawatū Tararua Highway, the new four-lane highway between Woodville and Ashhurst. Te Ahu a Turanga replaces State Highway 3 around the Manawatū Gorge which was closed in 2017 to due to landslides. Our newly-opened road provides a much safer, resilient, and efficient route between Palmerston North, Ashhurst, and Woodville.
Take a look at the first people driving the road from the Woodville end.
If you’re planning to use the new road this week as there may be many others with the same idea, so allow plenty of time for your travel. To ensure your trip goes as smooth as possible, take care on the entry/exit roundabouts, watch your speed on the highway, keep a safe following distance and keep left unless you are passing.
There's more info on our webpage about driving the new highway: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/te-ahu-a-turanga/
Thanks for all the tremendous support you've shown us over the past few years. We've really appreciated the ongoing great feedback and interest, and we hope you enjoy the ride.
